YEAR 9 PSHE – DETAILED CURRICULUM & RESOURCE LINKS

Years 7 to 11 are taught by tutors for one hour per week in a ‘rolling’ period superimposed on the timetable. Lessons encourage students to participate in group work, class discussions and role play to allow them to experience social issues in a safe environment. These lessons also help students to foster and develop attitudes of tolerance towards the religious, cultural and moral values of others whilst ensuring students are confident regarding their growing maturity and personal health.

In Year 9, most of the sexual education curriculum is taught at CCHS, covering both the “Relationships and Sex Education” and “Health and Wellbeing” strands of the specification. All students will participate in lessons on consent and marriage. However, if parents have not granted permission for their child to attend the sex education lesson, the student will be withdrawn solely from the contraception lesson

Sexual education is a significant component of Enrichment Day 2, during which Year 12 students take the lead in planning and presenting workshops for their peers. These workshops focus on important themes such as Consent, Contraception, Women’s Rights and Issues, and LGBTQ+ awareness.

The links below provide more precise references to the specification, along with a useful guide to resources and themes that you may discuss with your child either in preparation for or after the lesson. Additionally, we have included a selection of CCHS resources that will be used with your child throughout this academic year.
